BBC Breathing Places Schools

Through BBC Breathing Places Schools, we've helped young people create some 100,000 moments with nature
Getting pupils outside of the classroom and interested in nature has never been so popular.
And when it launched in 2008, the BBC Breathing Places Schools project set out to encourage more schools to use their own grounds as a space to welcome nature and wildlife.
The project has been a huge success, and at its close in July 2010, over 11,000 UK schools had signed up to take part.
To help schools create small, themed, nature areas in their grounds, the BBC provided simple wildlife-friendly 'Do One Thing' activities for teachers and pupils each term.
These activities ranged from sowing wildflowers and building minibeast corners, to creating water areas for wildlife and making homes for wildlife.
The BBC teamed up with us to deliver the project. But more than 40 other conservation, education and government organisations across the UK shared their knowledge and expertise with us to make the project relevant, interesting and inspiring for teachers and pupils to do.
One teacher wrote: 'What I really like about the project is that it is so straightforward. The idea of doing 'just one thing' each term is easy to plan for and is not overwhelming. The work can be tailored to any age range and can be as simple or complex as time allows.'
The project may no longer be running, but BBC Breathing Places Schools teacher's notes and other information is still available to download from the BBC Breathing Places Schools website.
We also still have lots of information on our website that can be used by teachers, and is suitable throughout the year. Take a look at the links below.
