With Olympic fever gripping the UK, your class can get involved by comparing the sporting abilities of humans to those of the animal kingdom.
This resource is suitable as a one-off class activity, or it can be extended into a larger debating, creative or homework project. The materials are generally aimed at KS2 children, but can be easily adapted and differentiated for your needs.
By making comparisons between the athletic abilities of humans and animals, this activity is designed to allow your students to research, investigate, present and debate.
We've split the activity into three categories for your students to investigate.
Land
- Fastest sprinter
- Greatest long distance runner
- Best climber
- Strongest
Sea
- Fastest swimmer
- Deepest diver
Air
- Fastest through air
- Highest jumper
E-mail you final results to us at animalympics@rspb.org.uk. As a thank you for submitting your final results, we'll send you a fantastic poster illustrating record-breaking animals in all these habitats for you to use in the classroom.
