About Belfast Lough
The reserve is currently closed while we redevelop the visitor centre. It will reopen later in the year. Find out more about the project on the our work here page. Or, for the latest information, read our blog or catch up with us on Facebook.
This oasis of calm is just 10 minutes from the centre of Belfast. We manage the lagoon to create ideal conditions for wading birds and ducks in autumn and winter, and for breeding terns in summer.
Come and visit the observation room and you'll be able to see a wide variety of birds, at extremely close quarters. Staff and volunteers can answer any questions or help you use the binoculars and telescopes. There are also lots of special events for families and children throughout the year.
Viewpoints open at all times; the Observation Room is open Tuesday to Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm. Closed Mondays and Sunday mornings and 25 December and 1 January.
None, but donations to help us continue our work here are appreciated.
