Top things to do in Spring

  1. Visit the Burgar Hill hide and watch and listen to the magical red-throated diver displays
  2. Pull in to a layby on the Hillside Road and watch for 'skydancing' hen harriers on a still, sunny morning
  3. Look out for returning Arctic and great skuas which breed on the reserve

  1. Park at the viewpoint on Hillside Road and scan for hunting merlins
  2. Visit the Burgar Hill hide and watch the breeding red-throated divers
  3. Pull in to a layby on the Lyde Road and look out for breeding curlews

  1. Pull into a layby on the Hillside Road and look out for hunting raptors
  2. Take a walk up Mid Hill on the peat cutter tracks for spectacular panoramic views of Orkney
  3. At dusk, pull over in to a layby on the road near Durkadale to look out for roosting hen harriers
