Humber Estuary Wildlife Photography Competition
At beginning of March 2011, the RSPB and Associated British Ports (ABP) launched the Humber Estuary Wildlife Photography Competition, which challenged keen local photographers to get outdoors and capture some of the amazing wildlife in the area.
Over a hundred entries were received from people of all ages, with subjects ranging from the elusive water vole to the beloved robin.
The difficult task of selecting winners from the three age categories fell to a judging panel, which included Great Grimsby MP Austin Mitchell, RSPB Birds magazine editor Mark Ward and Tom Jeynes, Sustainable Development Manager at ABP, Humber Ports.
After much deliberation they selected the following winners, each received a £100 Jessops voucher:
- Colin Smales (over 18s)
- Jed William Atkinson (13-17)
- Samantha Dalo (12 and under).
These winning entries, together with the best of the rest, were on display at the main hide at Blacktoft Sands over the summer and you can see them below.

First prize (18 and over): black-tailed godwit by Colin Smale

First prize (13-17 years): robin by Jed Atkinson

First prize (12 years and under): mallard by Samantha Dalo
