The buzzard is now the UK's most numerous bird of prey. Listen for their mewing calls, or keep an eye out for them as they soar overhead on sunny days.
Cetti's warblers are recent colonists of the UK. They are very often hard to see, but their 'explosive' song is unmistakable, once learned.
In spring, lapwings breed here. Visit then and you'll see their weird and wonderful displays and hear the calls which give them the folk name 'peewit'.
These dainty little white herons can be seen in autumn at Brading Marshes. You can see them fishing, stirring up fish fry from the muddy bottom with their feet.
During winter, flocks of wigeons are a daily sight. Wintering birds arrive from early September and numbers build up to a peak, usually in January.
