About Broadwater Warren

Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Beauty near to Royal Tunbridge Wells, the future is looking bright for Broadwater Warren.

At the moment it's a large conifer plantation with just a few remnants of heathland surviving. Our plan is to restore the area to its original habitat of a wildlife-rich mosaic of heathland and native woodland species with some clumps of pines, a wet woodland, a rare woodland mire and forest ponds.

It's a long-term project with a 10-year restoration plan to remove the conifer plantations and allow heath and native broadleaved trees to grow. Some parts of the reserve might look a bit unsightly while work is being carried out but we hope you'll see the improvements and enjoy the new views being opened up with each visit.

A waymarked nature trail leads you from the car park and along one of the many paths and around the reserve, past the decoy pond where you can sit and watch dragonflies and other wildlife on the water.

The trail passes sweet chestnut coppice, high conifer and drops down to the 'valley mire' - a rare wetland where a newly-built boardwalk allows you to venture across the bright iron-stained pools.

Opening times

Open all-year round with pedestrian access at all times. The car park is open from 7 am to 7 pm or dusk - whichever is earlier.
