Broadwater Warren
Broadwater Warren is an exciting new RSPB reserve just south of Tunbridge Wells. Acquired in January 2007, it is currently a large area of conifer plantation, plus remnants of heathland and ancient woodland within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Our plan is to restore the area to its former glory, a historic mosaic of open heathlands and ancient woodland, with some clumps of pine trees, a rare woodland mire and forest ponds, and in doing so benefit a wide range of rare wildlife such as nightjars and woodlarks. As it is such a large project involving the felling of trees, we are applying for consent from Forestry Commission under the Environmental Impact Assessment (Forestry) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999. We have identified all the impacts our proposed work might have, including all the huge benefits to wildlife conservation and the access improvements for people, plus how we intend to minimise or mitigate for the potential negative impacts. Our Environmental Statement is released for public consultation on 5 June 2009. Copies of the application and associated Environmental Statement can be viewed at the following locations:
Alternatively, a copy can be obtained from the Forestry Commission website, linked from this page. A printed copy can be obtained from the RSPB Wealden office subject to a £15 charge for copying and postage. Any comments about the application should be made to: Forestry Commission
