Top things to do in Spring

  1. Keep a eye out for corncrakes, as spring is the best time to see them
  2. Visit the reserve in the early morning or dusk to hear and see the farmland wader display
  3. Walk along the beaches to spot migrating waders

  1. Walk through the machair and dunes to see the abundance of wild flowers
  2. Enjoy a walk around the island - check when our special guided walks are running
  3. Keep an eye out for hen harriers hunting over the moorland

  1. See the silage and arable crops being harvested in a corncrake-friendly manner
  2. Scan along the beaches and coves for otters feeding in the surf
  3. Keep an eye out for the return of the wintering geese, some coming to the reserve and thousands heading overhead

Top things to do in Winter

  1. While walking through the reserve, you'll encounter the wintering barnacle, white-fronted and greylag geese
  2. The meadows are a good place to see the feeding lapwings, curlews and golden plovers
  3. Long-tailed ducks and divers are can be seen on the sea around the reserve
