If you'd like to visit a remote, tranquil wildlife haven, and enjoy the chance to see birds of prey such as hen harriers and merlins, this is the place to come. It's now home to one of the highest densities of breeding curlews in Europe, as well as the occasional short-eared owl, so you have a good chance of seeing something special.
Unfortunately we have had to close the reserve temporarily over the winter period while we review our car parking arrangements. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Please check the website or contact the Orkney office directly for any updates.
Opening times
Open at all times
Entrance charges
None, though donations to help us continue our work here are welcomed
Information for families
Wildlife Explorer backpacks are available from the Stromness Office. These contain binoculars, identification guides for birds and other species, bug jars etc. to help children get the most from their visit.
Information for dog owners
This is a working farm and as such it is preferred that dogs are not brought to the reserve - if they are, they must be kept under close control at all times and respect any local biosecurity measures.
