A better day today with 3 grey wagtails reported at both Wath Ings and the Wader Scrape, a male stonechat was on Wath Ings along with 3 green sandpipers, 5 redshanks,  350+ golden plovers and plenty of lapwings.

8 Goosanders were reported from the Mere.

There were 3 willow tits among the mixed tits and finches on the feeders and 4 redpolls were reported from the Themed area.

A small flock of fieldfares were seen feeding along Green Lane which is the main path which leads through the centre of the reserve.

Not much reported by our visitors today but one report well worth a mention was a bittern which was spotted from the Reedbed Hide.

Fairly quiet today so it's quite a short report ....

Wath Ings had 2 redshanks, 4 green sandpipers and 3 dunlins.

A grey wagtail was in the garden feeder area along with the usual blue tits, great tits, finches etc.

A kingfisher was reported flying along the edge of the Mere.

Wombwell Ings today;

4 dunlins, 1 redshank, mallards, teals, shovelers, gadwalls, lapwings, golden plovers, pied wagtails, grey partridges, canada geese.

Edderthorpe Flash;

The little stint is still present at the moment and a cetti's warbler has been heard numerous times in the reedbeds beside the Triangle Pond.

Mute swans, mallards, gadwalls, pochards, wigeons, shovelers, tufted ducks, coots, moorhens, lapwings, golden plovers, greylag geese, Canada geese, black headed and common gulls can also be seen.

Old Moor;

Wath Ings had 5 redshanks, 5 green sandpipers, 4 dunlins, lapwings, golden plovers, snipe, wigeons, teals, tufted ducks, mallards, gadwalls, a peregrine falcon, a sparrowhawk, a kestrel and the barn owl was once again seen hunting over the far floodbank.

The Mere had the usual healthy numbers of wildfowl including mallards, teals, shovelers, wigeons, gadwalls, tufted ducks, great crested grebes, little grebes. A good number of cormorants were on their usual island and 18 goosanders were cruising around the same area.

The garden feeder had tree sparrows, a willow tit, blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, bullfinches, greenfinches and the pheasants were doing their usual 'mopping up ' bit below the feeders.

2 buzzards were also seen circling lazily above the NW side of Old moor.

Old Moor today;

5 redshanks, 5 green sandpipers, 4 dunlins were on Wath Ings along with lapwings, golden plovers, teals, wigeons, shovelers, gadwalls and mallards.

A goldeneye was reported from the Mere.

The feeder area had a willlow tit, blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, bullfinches, greenfinches, tree sparrows.

Wombwell Ings;   2 green sandpipers, 2 goosanders, wigeons, teals, mallards, gadwalls, a shoveler, tufted ducks, lapwings.

Old Moor;   The garden feeder area was very busy today with 1 goldfinch, chaffinches, bullfinches, greenfinches, blue tits, great tits, a willow tit, long tailed tits, robin, wren, pheasants, a dunnock and the little owl was showing well in its normal perch behind the old shed.

The Mere had 2 snipe, 16 cormorants, lapwings, wigeons, mallards, gadwalls, tufted ducks, shovelers, coots, moorhens, teals, grey herons, mute swans, canada geese and pheasants.

A kestrel was hunting over the Field Pool.

Wath Ings had a peregrine falcon, 5 redshanks, 6 green sandpipers, 2 snipe, lapwings, a grey wagtail, numerous pied wagtails, linnets, a meadow pipit, a dunnock, a water rail, 2 goosanders dropped in briefly before heading off to roost and a barn owl was hunting at the far side over the floodbank.

Old Moor today;

In the garden feeder area were tree sparrows, great tits, blue tits, a willow tit, chaffinches, bullfinches, greenfinches, robins and wrens.

A great spotted woodpecker was reported adjacent to the Wader Scrape and 3 goosanders were on the Scrape itself.

Wath Ings had 8 dunlins, 5 redshanks, 6 green sandpipers, 2 snipe, a kingfisher, a grey wagtail, numerous pied wagtails and 3 stonechats.

Not much excitement yesterday but today has been far better ....

Wombwell Ings had a green woodpecker, 5 grey partridges, a yellowhammer, stonechats, a peregrine falcon, a sparrowhawk, 6 goosanders, 8 dunlins, green sandpipers  and redshanks.

Old Moor had stonechats on Wath Ings, a peregrine falcon on the Wader Scrape, a kingfisher was seen in front of the Family hide, 2 barn owls were hunting by the Reedbed hide and there were goosanders on the mere. A sparrowhawk was hunting over the Field Pool.

Edderthorpe Flash had the little stint still present and an American golden plover has been reported among the flock of golden plovers.

Today on Wombwell Ings 8 grey partridges were reported along with 11 goosanders, dunlins, redshanks and green sandpipers.

Old Moor had a pair of stonechats on the field pool, 2 green sandpipers, 3 snipe and a grey wagtail on Wath Ings and a number of common gulls were reported from the Reedbed Pool.

2 barn owls were entertaining us again from the far side of Wath Ings. It is very nice to see such a handsome birds and happily the sighting is becoming quite regular at the moment.

Wombwell Ings; 

2 redshanks, a snipe and 7 goosanders. Also present were numbers of golden plovers, lapwings, canada geese, gadwalls, mallards, wigeons, teals, tufted ducks.

Old Moor; 

2 snipe on the Mere along with mallards, teals, tufted ducks, coots, moorhens, shovelers, gadwalls, wigeons, a kingfisher, little grebes, great crested grebes, grey herons, mute swans, cormorants, black headed gulls and around a dozen common gulls.

Wath Ings had 4 green sandpipers, 5 redshanks, 12+ dunlins, 3 black tailed godwits, 2 ruffs, lapwings and golden plovers were present in numbers. Pied wagtails, a grey wagtail, linnets, goldfinches, 2 reed buntings, a meadow pipit, a water rail, kestrels, sparrowhawk. Also present were mallards, wigeons, teals, tufted ducks, shovelers, gadwalls, grey herons, coots and moorhens. A barn owl was seen again hunting over the far side of the water.

The garden feeder was quite busy as usual, visitors here included, bullfinches, greenfinches, chaffinches, a willow tit, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits, a dunnock and a robin. The pheasants were hoovering up the scraps below the feeders as usual.

A goldeneye was reported from Bolton Ings.

Today on Old Moor;

Wath Ings had a grey wagtail, pied wagtails, a water rail, 5 dunlins, 5 redshanks, 6 green sandpipers, 2 ruffs. A buzzard was also reported. The little owl was seen in its usual place in the area behind the feeders and there was a great spotted woodpecker, a willow tit, goldfinches, a bullfinch and a tree sparrow reported from the playground area.

A tawny owl was reported in the play area during the late evening.

Edderthorpe still has the little stint, along with healthy numbers of pochards, shovelers, wigeons, gadwalls, golden plovers and lapwings.

Wombwell Ings had 7 goosanders today.

Old Moor also had a goosander along with ruffs, redshanks, dunlins, green sandpipers, snipe, black tailed godwits, water rails, a grey wagtail, sparrowhawks and 2 barn owls hunting over Wath Ings.

Today's report showed that Edderthorpe Flash still had the little stint present.

Old Moor had 7 whooper swans on the Wader Scrape and a peregrine was reported to be up to its usual tricks over Wath Ings much to the dismay of the large flocks of both lapwings and golden plovers !

Not much happening yesterday but today has had a bit more to offer....

Edderthorpe Flash had a little stint and 4 whooper swans.

Wombwell Ings had a short eared owl.

Wath Ings on Old Moor had a barn owl hunting around the perimeter, green sandpipers, redshanks, snipe and a healthy flock of linnets kept dropping in to feed on the mud.

The little owl could be seen in its usual place behind the garden feeder area and now that the leaves are dropping from the trees the views are obviously improving.

The rest of the reserve had the usual healthy numbers of wildfowl as per previous reports.

Much the same list as previous reports but we did have 2 new visitors in the shape of 2 handsome adult whooper swans on wath Ings.

A good week as usual on Old Moor,

The Mere had mallards, gadwalls, shovelers, teals, wigeons, coots, moorhens, cormorants, black headed gulls, lesser black backed gulls, a common gull, great crested grebes, little grebes, a female goldeneye, grey herons, snipe, redshanks, mute swans and 4 goosanders.

Wath Ings had a water rail, green sandpipers, snipe, redshanks, dunlins, ruffs, lapwings, golden plovers, a kingfisher, shovelers, teals, mallards, coots, moorhens, wigeons, grey herons, black tailed godwits, pied wagtails, a grey wagtail, a peregrine falcon, sparrowhawks, kestrels, a barn owl, linnets, reed buntings, pied wagtails, a grey wagtail and stonechats.

Also seen on site were stock doves, a green woodpecker, a great spotted woodpecker and jays.

A Tuesday morning 'high speed raid' from the peregrine resulted in the flock of golden plovers being reduced by one but the highlight of the week has to be the American golden plover which was spotted among the golden plover flock on Wath Ings on Tuesday morning. It stayed until very early Wednesday morning but has not been seen since.

Today on Old Moor;

The usual healthy flocks of lapwings and golden plovers were on Wath Ings. Also present were, water rail, greenshank, redshanks, black tailed godwits, green sandpipers, snipe, ruffs, dunlins, mallards, gadwalls, shovelers, teals, great crested grebes, little grebes, cormorants, goldeneye, sparrowhawk, kestrel. The garden feeder had bullfinches, chaffinches, great tits, a willow tit, blue tits, pheasants and the odd squirrel can also be seen here.

Old Moor today;

As usual the healthy sized flocks of lapwings and golden plovers were present, also here were green sandpipers, black tailed godwits, snipe, redshanks, a single dunlin, ruffs, mallards, gadwalls, teals, shovelers, tufted ducks, wigeons, great crested grebes, little grebes, cormorants, kingfisher, jay, green woodpecker, stonechat, kestrel, sparrowhawk. There was a common gull on the Mere and 4 Goosander settled  on the Mere at 4:30pm.

Edderthorpe;

A quick trip here produced good sized flocks of golden plovers and lapwings. Snipe, shovelers, wigeons, pochards, mallards, cormorants, good numbers of black headed gulls, a few lesser black backed gulls and a common gull.

Old Moor;

3 Black tailed godwits, 6 green sandpipers, 6 redshanks, 12 snipe, 2 ruffs, good sized flocks of both lapwings and golden plovers, kingfisher, green woodpecker, jay, kestrel, sparrowhawk, stonechats. The usual wildfowl were present on the Mere including mallards, wigeons, gadwalls, teals, great crested grebes, little grebes, tufted ducks. Cormorants and black headed gulls were also present and a single lesser black backed gull was seen. A late report came in of 3 goosander on the Mere.

A barn owl was hunting at the far side of Wath Ings and the little owl could be seen in its usual place behind the garden feeder area.

Wombwell Ings;

7 snipe, 10 dunlins, 2 greenshanks, 1 green sandpiper.
