Top things to do in Spring

  1. The strange sound of snipe 'drumming' can often be heard (it's actually the male's tail feathers vibrating as he dives through the sky)
  2. Listen for water voles plopping into the bulling dyke
  3. Wading birds move through this site on their journey north

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Lapwings nest on the ground between April and July, so watch out for fluffy chicks
  2. Have a picnic by the River Dearne
  3. Hear the song of the skylark high in the sky

Top things to do in Autumn

  1. Hear Canada geese honking overhead
  2. Watch as numbers of ducks and other wildfowl increase into winter
  3. Keep an eye out for Scandinavian visitors - fieldfares and redwings

Top things to do in Winter

  1. See thousands of wading birds take to the sky
  2. Watch out for whatever's spooked the birds - maybe a sparrowhawk or peregrine!
  3. Wigeons graze the grass, keeping it short
