Farnham Heath is part of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an example of heathland restoration in progress.
By clearing the dense rows of conifers, we are opening up the land to create bright sunny areas where wildlife can flourish. This is also improving the views across the Weald so you can take in the wider landscape.
You'll already notice the results, with purple heather and yellow flowering gorse emerging, and rare heathland wildlife returning.
Grayling butterflies flutter on the breeze, the sounds of woodlarks and nightjars echo across the clearings and sand lizards bask in the sun.
The reserve also has wooded areas with wonderful displays of bluebells in spring and an amazing variety of fungi in the autumn.
There are three nature trails of differing lengths which will help you explore the heath and discover all that it has to offer.
Opening times
The reserve is open at all times. The reserve is next door to the Rural Life Centre, and visitors are welcome to use their car park, toilets and tea room. The Centre is open Wed–Fri and Sundays all year. It is also open on Saturdays from April to September. The car park opens at 9.30 am on weekdays and 10.30 am on weekends; the tea room opens at 11 am. There are parking lay-bys on adjacent roads outside those hours.
Entrance charges
Free, but donations to help us continue our work here are welcome.
Information for families
A limited programme of 8-9 events each year at present, including bug hunts and other family activities.
Information for dog owners
Dogs and their owners are welcome but we ask that you keep to the footpaths and bridleways so as not to disturb the fragile heathland.
