This reserve is a major restoration project, reawakening the heathland that was lost here – as in so many places – to commercial forestry. Many hectares of conifers have been cleared, with heather seeds germinating, and rare heathland wildlife such as woodlarks, tree pipits, nightjars and sand lizards returning.

Opening times

Reserve open at all times. Car park opens 9.30 am weekdays and 10.30 am weekends. Parking lay-bys on adjacent roads outside those hours. Rural Life Centre open Wed–Fri and Sundays all year. Open on Saturdays April–September. Tea room opens at 11 am.

Entrance charges

Free, but donations to help us continue our work here are welcome.
