About Fowlmere

Large red damselfly on reed

Fowlmere's reedbeds and pools are fed by natural chalk springs, and a chalk stream runs through the reserve. Special birds include kingfishers, water rails, and nine species of warblers, including sedge warblers, reed warblers and grasshopper warblers. Starlings, thrushes and buntings, including corn buntings, roost on the reserve in the winter. The nature trail is partly wheelchair and pushchair accessible, as are two of the three hides.
