Frampton Marsh is one of the best places for wildlife in the UK.

Top things to do in Spring

  1. Listen to the magnificent chorus of skylarks over the wet grassland
  2. Watch the aerobatic display of the lapwings as they tumble around in the sky in order to attract a mate
  3. Brown hares use the fields as boxing rings in the early morning

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Dragonflies hawk insects along the ditches and over the reedbed. They may in turn attract the attention of a spectacular hobby
  2. Marsh harriers hunt over the wet grassland and, with luck, you might see a rare Montagu’s harrier
  3. Nesting wading birds on the scrapes may include avocets, ringed plovers, little ringed plovers and oystercatchers

Top things to do in Autumn

  1. Scarce species such as little stints, curlew sandpipers and spotted redshanks are all regular visitors
  2. Wading birds move through in large numbers as they migrate for the winter
  3. Kingfishers return from their inland breeding grounds to fish in the coastal creeks

Top things to do in Winter

  1. Brent geese from Siberia congregate on the saltmarsh in their thousands, while impressive flocks of lapwings and golden plovers feed on the wet grassland
  2. Flocks of twites and snow buntings feed on the scrapes and saltmarsh, and enigmatic Lapland buntings can be found
  3. Look out for talons - peregrines, merlins and hen harriers all regularly hunt over the saltmarsh
