Top things to do in Spring

  1. You may hear the distinctive 'pee-wit' call of lapwings and see their dancing displays
  2. Skylarks pour out their endless, rolling song from way up in the sky
  3. Male reed buntings sing their simple, three or four note song from a perch

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Look out for yellow wagtails feeding on the ground amongst the cattle
  2. Little egrets and grey herons feed around the pools
  3. Many dragonflies hunt around the boardwalk trail

Top things to do in Autumn

  1. Wintering ducks and wading birds begin to arrive
  2. Flocks of starlings gather and head off to roost in nearby reedbeds in large numbers
  3. Look out for the vivid blue flash of a kingfisher flying along a ditch, and listen for their sharp, high-pitched whistle

Top things to do in Winter

  1. Close-up views of thousands of wigeons, teals and shovelers roosting on the pools
  2. Peregrines, marsh harriers and hen harriers cruise around looking for an easy meal, causing chaos amongst the flocks of ducks and waders
  3. Get close-up views of snipe using their long, probing bills to feed deep in the peat
