Star species

Our star species are some of the most interesting birds you may see on your visit to the reserve.

Buzzard

Buzzards can be seen circling overhead throughout the year. Visit in summer to see the young birds joining the adults in the air to perfect their flying technique.

Dipper

Look for dippers feeding around the edges of the lake and feeder stream. They can even walk underwater!

Dipper - adult

Golden eagle

Golden eagles are resident here, but visit between April and August when the viewpoint is open and experts will show you the birds. When a pair is present, you can witness nesting activity.

Golden eagle - adult

Peregrine

Peregrines nest on the rocky crags here. Spend time scanning the skies and you may see these powerful falcons passing overhead.

Peregrine - adult

Redstart

Several pairs of redstarts nest in the birch, ash and oak woodland here. They can be seen between late April and August.

Redstart - male
