Top things to do in Spring

  1. Hear curlews calling noisily as they set off northwards to their breeding grounds
  2. See noisy Mediterranean and black-headed gulls and Sandwich terns displaying in their pre-breeding rituals
  3. Admire the swathes of purple sea thrift coming into bloom on the saltmarsh

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Watch the tern and gull feeding flocks
  2. Juvenile gulls and terns appear - listen for their raucous calls
  3. See the sea lavender coming into bloom on the saltmarsh

Top things to do in Autumn

  1. See if you can spot some of the returning grey plovers, many still in magnificent breeding plumage
  2. If you're lucky, you might see an osprey, on its way south, feeding on the harbour's fish
  3. Watch out for red admiral butterflies flying south to Europe

Top things to do in Winter

  1. Look through the dark-bellied brent geese for youngsters to see if they've had a good breeding season in the Arctic
  2. If there's panic, a peregrine may be hunting and causing chaos
  3. Watch out for big flocks of waders feeding and roosting
