Cycling at Minsmere

Avocet in flight

On the beautiful Suffolk coast, Minsmere offers a day out for families, beginners and experienced birdwatchers alike, with plenty to enjoy at any time of year.

After parking your bike near the visitor centre and café, explore our nature trails through woodland, heathland and reedbeds, to excellent hides and to the beach. In summer, you can watch avocets and marsh harriers or hear booming bitterns.

The reserve is easily reached by bike from railway stations at Darsham and Saxmundham; though it is best to avoid the B-roads. From Darsham, there's a roadside cyclepath along the A12 north to the turn for Darsham village. Then follow the lanes through Westleton.

From Saxmundham, head for Eastbridge and continue on the metalled road across the Minsmere river. Follow the road when it turns right to Scott's Hall Farm (it isn't marked on the map!). Use Ordnance Survey Explorer maps 212 and 231.
