In the Cambridgeshire Fens we're working with Hanson on an ambitious scheme. We're transforming a working sand and gravel quarry into a vast nature reserve with open water, grassland and, when complete, the biggest reedbed in the UK.
The reserve has been designed from the outset to create wildlife rich habitats. Ten years into the 30-year project, we are already attracting a wealth of wetland wildlife including bitterns, marsh harriers and bearded tits. Ducks, grebes, swans, wading birds, birds of prey and farmland species can be seen at almost any time of year.
Basic visitor facilities are slowly being introduced with a range of moderate to more challenging trails currently available and public rights of way criss-crossing the area. Come and see how we’re bringing nature back to life.
