- Listen to drumming snipe and watch the lapwing’s dramatic tumbling display
- Search for elusive garganeys lurking along the ditch edges
- Look out for the first hairy dragonflies patrolling the rivers

- Hunt for common lizards basking in the early morning sun along the boardwalk
- Find brightly-coloured yellow wagtails bobbing amongst the cattle
- Enjoy the cows and calves grazing on the washes

- Look for greenshanks and green sandpipers feeding around the pools
- Test your duck identification now they are all in brown 'eclipse' plumage, or watch the marsh harriers cruising up and down the reserve
- Find the first whooper swans when they return from Iceland

- Enjoy the Bewick’s and whooper swans roosting on the reserve
- Watch tree sparrows, reed buntings and yellowhammers feeding only metres away from the visitor centre
- See thousands of ducks and wading birds when the water levels are shallow
