Nearest railway station

The nearest railway station to this reserve is Purfleet. C2C rail run a regular train service (approx every 30 mins) from London Fenchurch Street to Purfleet Station (Essex). Other London connections are at Limehouse, West Ham and Barking. Telephone National Rail enquiries 08457 484950 for further details. Walking and cycling from Purfleet Station: On leaving Purfleet Station, turn right, follow the road until the pub, 'The Royal', on the left hand side. At The Royal, head down to the Thames and join the Riverside Path (a joint foot and cycle path). Follow the riverside path, which eventually crosses the Mardyke River at a small bridge. After the bridge, turn left and follow the pavement around to the RSPB Environment & Education Centre.

Nearest bus stop

Route 44 runs daily between Grays and Lakeside via Purfleet. Service is operated by Ensignbus (01708 865656) Monday-Saturday leaving Grays every 30 minutes past the hour and Lakeside every hour on the hour. Operated by Arriva (0870 120 1088) hourly Sundays and most Public Holidays. Nearest stop is Purfleet Garrison Estate. Route 11 runs Monday-Saturday between Basildon and Purfleet Station via Orsett and South Ockendon. Service is operated by Blue Triangle (01708 631001) approximately every one and a half hours. Nearest stop is Purfleet Garrison Estate. Other Bus services Blue Triangle Bus Service: No 372 from Hornchurch to Wennington Green. Telephone 01708 631001. Stagecoach Bus Service: No 103 from Romford to Rainham War Memorial. Telephone 0870 608 2608.

By road

From London: Join A13 eastbound. After Dagenham the A13 goes onto an elevated section. Stay on the A13 to the A1306 turn-off (Signposted Wennington, Aveley and Purfleet.) At the slip road roundabout turn right, following signs for Purfleet on the A1306 heading east. Continue along the A1306 for ½ mile. At the traffic lights, take a right hand turn, signposted Purfleet and RSPB onto New Tank Hill Road flyover. The entrance to the reserve is signposted approximately 300 metres along this road, just after the bottom of the flyover on the right hand side. From the M25: Exit M25 at junction 31. At the J31 roundabout take the A1306 west, signposted to RSPB Rainham Marshes. Continue along the A1306 for 1.5 miles. At the traffic lights turn left, signposted Purfleet and RSPB onto New Tank Hill Road flyover. The entrance to the reserve is signposted approximately 300 metres along this road, just after the bottom of the flyover on the right hand side.
