School visits

Peacock nectaring on teasel

Fineshade Wood is part of Rockingham Forest and is an ancient woodland. It is situated between Corby and Stamford just off the A43. The RSPB and Forestry Commission offer an exciting programme of school visits based at the newly refurbished visitor and education centre at Top Lodge.

Top Lodge has a wide range of habitats and is rich in all kinds of wildlife from red kites to deer, butterflies, orchids and reptiles. Each season brings changes in the colours, sounds and smells of the woodland, making it ideal for return visits.

Your pupils will be able to explore the world of nature for themselves by studying at first hand the birds, animals and plants at Fineshade Wood. Trained RSPB Field Teachers lead all visits.

You can also view our red kite pack for more ideas for activities within the classroom.

When can we visit?

You can visit any weekday during school terms. Both half day (two hour) and full day (four hour) sessions can be booked. Times are flexible to meet your needs.
