Wildlife awards

Trumland is one of the best places for wildlife in the UK.

Top things to do in Spring

  1. Sit and watch displaying hen harriers
  2. Trek to the top of Knitchen Hill and enjoy stunning views of the moors and surrounding islands
  3. Trek the reserve paths looking for breeding waders: golden plovers, snipe and curlews, as well as great skuas, red grouse and merlins if you are lucky

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Enjoy a moorland walk with flowering heather and late-nesting birds
  2. Visit and enter Taversoe Tuick burial mound by the reserve track, with calling curlews all around
  3. Off the reserve, visit the beautiful north-west coast of Rousay with numerous historic sites and nesting seabirds
