Our star species are some of the most interesting birds you may see on your visit to the reserve.
Though lapwings don't nest around the bay, you'll see them late into spring before they move up to higher ground to breed. |  |
Pink-footed geese assemble here from late September to March. Up to 10,000 pass through on their way north. |  |
Pintails flock here in autumn and winter. Look out for the elegant males and their amazing long tails. |  |
You can see redshanks throughout the year at Udale Bay. Listen for their loud calls - they are sometimes called 'the sentinel of the marshes'. |  |
During winter, flocks of wigeons are a daily sight, with 10,000 dropping in on their return to their breeding grounds. Wintering birds arrive from early September and numbers build up to a peak, usually in January. |  |
