Cliffs, beaches and estuaries

Bustling colonies of seabirds, beautiful beaches and lagoons packed with waders and wildfowl guarantee a memorable visit to our coastal reserves. You can also experience the thrill of seeing long-distance migrant birds dropping in to rest and feed on their epic journeys.

Featured reserve

Wader flock at Snettisham

Snettisham

Enjoy one of the country's greatest wildlife spectacles at Snettisham, when especially high tides force thousands upon thousands of birds to leave the mudflats where they feed, and settle close to the hides overlooking the lagoons.

Visitor tips

These tips will help you to make the most of your visit:

  • Seabird colonies on cliffs are at their best in spring and early summer
  • Some of our coastal reserves incorporate beautiful beaches - perfect for a relaxing walk or picnic
  • Birds like beaches too - look along the tideline for waders, gulls and terns
  • Look carefully out to sea and you may see seals or even porpoises breaking the surface
