Cliffs, beaches and estuaries

View of the RSPB Bempton Cliffs nature reserve, North Yorkshire

Bustling colonies of seabirds, beautiful beaches and lagoons packed with waders and wildfowl guarantee a memorable visit to our coastal reserves. You can also experience the thrill of seeing long-distance migrant birds dropping in to rest and feed on their epic journeys.

Visitor tips

These tips will help you to make the most of your visit:

  • Seabird colonies on cliffs are at their best in spring and early summer
  • Some of our coastal reserves incorporate beautiful beaches - perfect for a relaxing walk or picnic
  • Birds like beaches too - look along the tideline for waders, gulls and terns
  • Look carefully out to sea and you may see seals or even porpoises breaking the surface
