Mud dipping at the Ribble Discovery Centre
Children learning about the wildlife of the Ribble Estuary

The Ribble Discovery Centre, run by the RSPB in partnership with United Utilities and Fylde Borough Council, offers educational access to the fascinating Ribble estuary.

When can we visit?

Schools are welcome all year, but visits are free in the autumn and spring terms. All activities on the estuary are tide dependant. Early booking is essential for the summer term. You are welcome to visit at any time of year to see where your group will be working, carry out your own risk assessment and to finalise your programme.

What should we bring?

We can accommodate up to 60 children per visit. Children will be split into smaller groups. Wellingtons and long trousers and possibly a change of clothing are essential for the mud dips. Suitable warm, water and windproof clothing is recommended if the weather forecast is unfavourable. Sensible shoes are required for all activities at the centre. Hats and sun cream are necessary in hot weather.
