Little Schools' BirdwatchIn partnership with 3rd and Bird, we are pleased to introduce Little Schools' Birdwatch. This brand new addition to the Birdwatch family (alongside Big Schools' Birdwatch and Big Garden Birdwatch), is designed to educate and inspire three- to five-year olds about the birds that share their outdoor space. Young children have a natural curiosity in the world around them, so use your outdoor area to spark a lifelong interest in nature and wildlife! The activity is very simple and links well to the Early Years curriculum. How to take part- Decide when you want to do the Birdwatch. Organise any extra help you will need (for example, parents or a classroom assistant).
- Set up some feeders – and some water if you can – in a convenient place near your classroom windows where children will easily be able to see the bird activity
- Closer to the day of your watch, you can make a 'hide' role play area, using large sheets of paper stuck to the inside of the windows, with eye slits to peep from. Decorate and make into a comfortable and colourful birdwatching area. If preferred, your children could also watch the birds outside, perhaps using a wendy house to peep from.
- Let us know what you saw! We really want to know what your children spotted in their outdoor area. There are two ways to do this. You can complete the paper form provided in this pack or visit our website and submit your results online.
