Kids hooked on albatrosses

Albatross Task Force members with Albie the albatross

In 2007 we asked Wildlife Explorers (our youth membership) to adopt 'Save the Albatross' as their appeal for that year.

As one of the biggest birds on the planet, with a 12-foot wingspan, and enduring some of the harshest conditions possible, it was really easy to get the kids inspired by these amazing creatures.

Through a mixture of sponsored activities - cycling, hopping, running, singing and even silences, Wildlife Exploreres set about raising money.

And by the end of the year, we were pleased to announce that they had helped raise just over £49,000 - a truly fabulous achievement.

With this money we were able to fund a new member of the Task Force - Caio Azevdo in Brazil.

As a small thank you for all their efforts, every young person who raised money to help these wonderful birds got a certificate, plus a set of albatross stickers.

What can I do?

You don't have to travel all the way to Brazil to find out more about the work of the Albatross Task Force.
