Update

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to you, our supporters, we have been able to purchase Broubster Leans as an RSPB nature reserve. This beautiful wetland is teeming with life, and it is an important habitat for breeding wading birds. Thank you for your generosity - we couldn't have done it without you. We must now maintain and enhance the reserve to protect the special wildlife there.

What do we hope to achieve?

Help us save Broubster Leans.

We have now purchased 197 hectares (487 acres) of this precious resource and we can protect this wonderful wetland, with its delicate balance of farmland, rough land and wetland – forever.

Broubster Leans will allow us to work closely with local farmers, helping make not just the RSPB's land but the surrounding area a welcoming environment where some of our most amazing wildlife can find a home and thrive.

Why we need your help

1. we will use money raised to maintain and enhance the wonderful, rich patchwork and tapestry of wildlife habitats
2. we will keep the area an important place for breeding wading birds and help reverse their decline in Scotland
3. we need to reverse the effects of inappropriate forest plantations - waders are unlikely to breed near tall trees and we need to take out those trees where they are in the wrong place
