Residential Volunteer - Dorset Information Officer - Long term placement - Arne and Radipole

Arne

Why we want you

As a conservation charity it is incredibly important that we tell as many people as possible about what we do, why it's important and how they can help. Our reserves are one of the best places we have to talk to people and show them just how wonderful and important our natural world is. You will help us reach and inspire more people to support us in our work and help bring to life our conservation stories.
You will assist with the day to day running of the Dorset reserves, ensuring that our visitors have the best possible experience and assist our staff to recruit new members to the RSPB.
You will have the opportunity to trial new events on and off site to raise the profile of the RSPB within the local communities.

What’s in it for you?

This role will provide you with:
Specialist experience of environmental visitor services on both urban and rural flagship RSPB nature reserves.
Excellent experience in working off site to engage with new audiences and communities.
Experience of planning, delivering and promoting events both off and on site and giving you the opportunity to both work alone and within our friendly Dorset team.
You will have the opportunity to work with some amazing wildlife such as smooth snakes, otter and osprey.

The skills you need

Good people and communication skills and an approachable personality are essential for this role, as is the ability to work both alone and as part of a team. Specialist knowledge is not necessary, but an enthusiasm for wildlife and an interest in conservation is. The ability to be flexible and the confidence to lead events is essential. Previous volunteering and customer experience is an advantage. You need to be at least 18 years old and have a full clean driving licence.

Your time

Minimum commitment: 6 months
Duration: From June 2012
