Creeping Thistle Pull - Sutton Fen

Sutton Fen

Why we want you

Much of our nature reserve management can only be carried out by hand because heavy machinery could disturb the important wildlife we are working to protect. As an independent registered charity we rely on volunteers to help us carry out this work.

What’s in it for you?

RSPB Team Challenge offers an unusual and cost-effective alternative to the myriad of outdoor 'corporate training' days now on offer. Your employees will join regular RSPB staff at one of the RSPB's top nature reserves and become 'Wardens' for a day - making a real contribution to wildlife conservation while working as a team and having fun. You and your team will be pulling thistles to restore the condition of species rich grassland.

The skills you need

Team Challenges are muddy and energetic, but that's all part of the fun! We will provide supervision and any tools or materials necessary to complete the task (unless obtaining them is part of the challenge!).

No experience is necessary but you do need to be able to do physical work.

Volunteers will need a packed lunch, plenty of drinking water, stout shoes, waterproofs and a change of clothes in case of bad weather, sun cream and hats if hot

Your time

Minimum commitment: 1 day
Duration: 1 day
Period: June - early July

Notes

For groups of 5 - 20 people.

Your help makes a direct impact on the work of the reserve and we are grateful for your contribution in this way. We do also ask for a donation to cover the cost of organising and equipping team challenges of a minimum of £25 per head.

The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Nature is amazing - help us keep it that way.
