Team Challenge - Stour Wood

RSPB Stour Estuary Reserve

Why we want you

A combination of ancient woodland and estuarine mud and salt-marsh makes this reserve a very special place, home to unusual plants, rare moths, unusual butterflies and a wide-range of woodland birds, waders and water fowl. It is carefully managed by staff and volunteers to provide the best habitat possible. Your help will assist the RSPB (Europe's largest wildlife conservation charity) preserve and enhance this nationally important site.

What’s in it for you?

It's your chance to have some fun outdoors doing conservation work, in one of Suffolk's finest ancient woodlands. Coppicing, ride management, removal of non-native species and keeping ponds clear is all part of the jigsaw in maintaining a valuable species-rich habitat.

The skills you need

Team Challenges can be muddy and energetic, but that's all part of the fun! The tasks are varied and depending on the time of year will involve clearing and burning vegetation, helping with ride management and keeping parts of the wood open, and maintaining fences, steps, bridges and hides. We will provide supervision and any tools or materials required. No experience is necessary but you do need to be able to do physical work.

Your time

Minimum commitment: One event
Duration: Ongoing
Period: October to March

Notes

Your help makes a direct impact on the conservation of these woods, and we are grateful for your contribution in this way. We do also ask for a donation to cover the cost of organising and equipping team challenges of £300 a day for up to 10 people.

The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Nature is amazing - help us keep it that way.
