Visitor Experience Volunteer - Fen Drayton Lakes

Fen Drayton Lakes Nature Reserve

Why we want you

We offer a warm welcome to all visitors to Fen Drayton Lakes, and we're always on the look out for more volunteers to be part of the flexible, friendly team who make that happen.
We provide the information and inspiration that'll help our visitors get the most out of their time with us - from orientating new visitors, showing kids a really cool beetle, helping run an event to being a 'guide in the hide', or any of the other tasks which keep us running smoothly.
We try to share our love of nature through everything we do, encouraging others to step up and help protect it too. So chatting about our campaigns, RSPB membership, volunteering and other ways to support nature conservation is an integral part of this role. As a public face of the organisation we'll rely on your enthusiasm and commitment to spread our key messages.

What’s in it for you?

The opportunity to share your love of nature with others and inspire their support for conservation.
The chance to develop your skills and interests alongside a friendly team of staff and volunteers - we organise monthly walks or meetings to build your knowledge of nature conservation and Fen Drayton's fascinating wildlife, as well as providing training in areas like customer care.
Finally, it's a great way to be a part of the largest nature conservation organisation in Europe and gain a valuable insight into our work, much of which would be impossible without the support of volunteers.

The skills you need

We're looking for people with enthusiasm and an interest in wildlife, with an outgoing personality, tact and diplomacy. You'll be happy to start conversations and enjoy meeting a wide range of visitors, working as part of a friendly team.
Don't worry if you're not a natural history expert - your infectious love of the natural world is what we need.
You'll be happy to work outside, based in an exhibition trailer or other sheltered spots around the reserve. If you have particular access needs please do get in touch and we'll work around these wherever possible.

Your time

Minimum commitment: Flexible, ideally a couple of days a month, working roughly 10.30 am - 4.30 pm
Duration: Ongoing
Period: All year round
