Fen Drayton Lakes Nature Reserve
Why we want you
Here at Fen Drayton Lakes we run a varied events programme which inspires, informs, spreads our love of nature and encourages support for conservation amongst our visitors.
If you've got an enthusiasm for an aspect of nature which you'd like to share with others, we'd love to hear from you. Perhaps you're a keen wildlife gardener, a fossil fan, can bring Fenland history to life with your stories, or have a talent for helping beginners get into bird watching.
Together we can run a workshop, walk or other event which brings your area of interest to life for others to enjoy too - or maybe a series of events! As a public face of the organisation we'll rely on your enthusiasm and commitment to spread our key messages.
What’s in it for you?
The opportunity to take a lead in sharing your love of nature with others ad inspiring their support for conservation.
The chance to develop your skills and interests alongside a friendly team of staff and volunteers - we organise monthly walks and meetings to build your knowledge of nature conservation and Fen Drayton's fascinating wildlife, as well as providing training in areas like customer care.
Finally it's a great way to be a part of the largest nature conservation organisation in Europe and gain valuable insight into our work, much of which would be impossible without the support of volunteers.
The skills you need
The skills you need will be an interest in an area of natural history or heritage related to the local area.
As with everyone in the visitor experience team, we're looking for people with enthusiasm, an outgoing personality, tact and diplomacy. You'll be happy to start conversations and enjoy meeting a wide range of people.
You need to have the confidence to take a lead role working with a group of people, supported by our staff and volunteers. We'll provide training in relevant areas like leading themed guided walks or working with a family audience.
Your time
Minimum commitment: Flexible, from a one-off event to a regular series of walks
Duration: Ongoing

Volunteers are welcome to reclaim travel expenses up to a radius of 25 miles from Fen Drayton Lakes.
The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Nature is amazing - help us keep it that way.
