Restoring active blanket bog in the Berwyn and Migneint Special Areas of Conservation in Wales

25 January 2010

The main objective of this project is to bring about a significant and sustained improvement in the condition of blanket bog in key parts of two Special Areas for Conservation (SACs) in Wales. The Berwyn and Migneint SACs are two of the most important for blanket bog in the UK.

Heads of the Valleys Lapwing Project

The Heads of the Valleys area has been identified as a Key Area for lapwing, supporting approximately 10% of the Welsh population. Reclaimed coal tips, characteristic of the area, have provided ideal nesting habitat for these birds. However loss and disturbance of breeding sites is now putting the future survival of the species at risk.
