Accentors
A European and Asian family, with few species, only two in Europe and one in the UK. Accentors are small, inconspicuous, streaked birds, with sharp, pointed bills and a slightly robin-like, pot-bellied form. They live mostly close to the ground, with a quick, shuffling and hopping action when feeding. Members of this familyThis list only includes birds that occur regularly within the UK. No wonder dunnocks are often overlooked - not only are they small, brown and grey with a slender beak, but they also like to creep around under bushes in a mouse-like way searching for their insect and spider prey. However, when two rival males meet they become very animated with lots of wing-flicking and loud calling. | |
