Male and female goosanders swimming
Both male and female goosanders have long, slender, hook-tipped red 'sawbills'. The male (in front here) has a white body, black back and dark green head. During winter, look out for his white body becoming flushed pink. The female has a grey body and reddish-brown head and neck, clearly seperated from the white breast. She also has an obvious white throat.
