If you want to plan next years Wildsquare surveys into your calendar, then now is the time to do it. You will be ready to start your surveys as soon as the Identification sheets are ready to download from the website.
16th February to 14th May 2009
Phenology:
Phenology looks at the timings of natural events such as bud bursts, flowering times and migrant arrivals. Phenology research is usually linked to the weather and some of the work shows a link between the temperature and when certain wildlife appears. We will be asking you to look for things like the first bluebell, first frogspawn or the first caterpillar.
15th May 2009 to 14th August 2009
Wildflowers:
In late spring and early summer Wildflowers are at their best. We will be asking you to look for lots of different types of wildflowers ranging from the white flowers of the Oxeye Daisy to the yellow of the Wild Pansy. Wildflowers are very beautiful and will be found in lots of different habitats. This should get your spring and summer started in a blaze of colour.
1st September to 30th November 2009
Fungal Foray: (Mushrooms to you and me!)
The Autumn sees the start of our survey about fungus. Different types of fungus can be seen throughout the Autumn growing on trees, on woodland floors or in meadows. Take your Identification sheets out to find the Horse Mushroom, common ink cap or the dog stinkhorn. Learn about the weird and wonderful names, shapes and colours of these fungi.
