Kate Humble wants to help rockhopper penguins
RSPB President Kate Humble explains what's so special about rockhopper penguins.
You only need to look at a northern rockhopper penguin to realise how special it is.
These stunning birds, with their bright yellow head plumes and spiky black feathers, look like they’ve walked straight off a movie set. Rockhoppers are the rock stars of the penguin world, and that’s why we love them so much.
But there’s much more to the northern rockhopper story than meets the eye. These incredible birds live only on remote islands in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. Their numbers have crashed in recent years. Things are so bad that they are now classed as endangered.
The reason for their decline is still a mystery, and the RSPB is working with the islanders to solve it before we lose them forever. But we can’t do it all by ourselves, so read these pages and find out how you can step up for nature and help the rockhopper penguins.'
