Let the skylarks sing

Singing skylark

In 2005, we asked you to help us raise money to help skylarks on farms.

We'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped raise a whopping

£25,122

Just 30 years ago, the lovely, bubbly song of the skylark was heard over nearly every farm. Now there are only half as many skylarks, and in some areas, the fields are now silent.

But the RSPB, along with other bird-lovers, farmers and even the government, is fighting back for skylarks. RSPB research has shown that there are easy ways to help them. If the farmers help skylarks, the Government gives them money to pay for it.

But all this costs a lot of money... and that’s why we asked for your help.

The money you raised will allow us to train 30 people to do this work, or to employ a researcher for two years, who will see how the birds respond.

A big thanks to you all. By raising MORE money than expected, we believe the result will mean MORE skylarks. In a few years time, we hope that once again, there will be as many skylarks as when your parents were children.
