Make a note
Keep your own bird diary through the year. This will help you notice when things change, and when birds start arriving or leaving Make a note of what you see, when and where you saw it and what the weather conditions were like. And count the birds too – such as the coots on your local park lake. As the numbers increase or decrease, you will know that migrants are arriving or leaving. The BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) has a scheme called Migration Watch, which collects information from the public to find out more about migration. You can submit records of migrating birds online using the link on this page. All your information will help their research. |
