Adventure awaits at Haweswater this summer

Whatever the weather, families can get outside and discover wonderful wildlife on a range of RSPB events at Haweswater, near Shap this summer.

Bats and Bears” invites children to bring their teddy bears and grown ups, on an exploration of Naddle Forest. As the sun sets, eavesdrop on bats, and discover the other wild inhabitants of the forest on this exciting guided walk. Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited, events will run on 31 July, 11 and 21 August, and 1 September. Adult tickets £12 (RSPB members £10), child tickets £10, suitable for ages 10 and below.

Families are invited to join a guided wildlife adventure on “Naddle Forest Explorers” to discover just how wild Haweswater really is by taking part in bird spotting, bug hunting, animal tracking and much more. Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited. Running on a variety of dates  from July – late September. Adult tickets £12 (RSPB members £10), child tickets £10, suitable for ages 12 and below.

Have you ever heard of Hobgrumble Gill? ‘Swindale Valley Wildlife Adventure’ at Haweswater is the perfect opportunity to discover the dramatic landscapes, incredible wildlife and fascinating folklore of secluded Swindale Valley in the eastern Lake District. Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited. Running on a variety of dates  from Adult tickets £20 (RSPB members £16), under 18’s tickets £12, suitable for ages 14 and above.

Join RSPB Haweswater for a wild night out! ‘Discover Naddle at Night’ offers visitors to the reserve the unique opportunity to join a guided exploration of Naddle Forest’s nocturnal wildlife. From listening to bats on detectors to spying on roe deer and badgers, and discovering the tracks and trails of the woodland’s wild inhabitants.  Pre-booking is essential and spaces are limited, events will run on 30 July, 13 and 27 August, 3, 17 and 27 September. Adult tickets £15 (RSPB members £12), under 18’s tickets £10, suitable for ages 10 and above.

The Haweswater Badger Hide is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a unique close encounter with these elusive mammals, in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Join a Guided Badger Watch and take advantage of the expertise of an RSPB Hide Guide on a 90 minute experience, alternatively opt for Exclusive Badger Hide Hire for a truly unforgettable evening; perfect for wildlife photographers, families or groups. Pre-booking is essential. Guided Badger Watches cost £10 - £15 per person, RSPB Member discounts apply, suitable for ages 8 and above. Exclusive Badger Hide Hire ranges from £104 - £170, RSPB member discounts apply. The hide is open all year.

Haweswater Reservoir is owned by United Utilities and the water company works in partnership with the RSPB, who manage the estate. The partnership aims to encourage public access and recreation, while protecting water quality and wildlife for future generations.
