Celebrities show their support for Love Minsmere Festival

They will be sending a strong and powerful message to EDF Energy to protect RSPB Minsmere and its wildlife in their Sizewell C plans.

Celebrities are showing their support for the RSPB’s inaugural Love Minsmere Festival happening this Sunday (15 September).

The festival, taking place on RSPB Minsmere nature reserve’s incredible viewpoint, Whin Hill, site of the old BBC Springwatch studio, will demonstrate to EDF Energy how many people Love Minsmere and want to see the flagship nature reserve protected from the potential detrimental environmental impacts of Sizewell C.

The festival comes as a response to EDF’s Stage 4 public consultation for their proposals to build a twin nuclear reactor which will bring the Sizewell Estate right up to the border of this wildlife haven.

TV and radio presenter, Bill Turnbull, and actress Diana Quick, will be attending the event and giving speeches to the crowd on why they Love Minsmere and want to see it protected.

Bill Turnbull, TV and radio presenter said: “I Love Minsmere. It’s an amazing nature reserve that means so much to many. It’s also a crucial home for an abundance of wildlife. That’s why I am supporting and attending the Love Minsmere Festival this Sunday, to show my appreciation of this beautiful place and demonstrate to EDF that I, and many others, want to see this special landscape protected.”

Actress Diana Quick added: “It has been a source of profound joy to me to live near Minsmere for more than 30 years, in so tranquil a place, with its rich and varied mosaic of wild beauty.

“I’m excited to be joining 1000 other people that Love Minsmere this Sunday to celebrate the nature reserve and its rare wildlife.  We all want to see the environment at RSPB Minsmere and beyond protected.

“The Love Minsmere Festival is a brilliant opportunity to come together and remind EDF how much we cherish this outstanding location for nature. I hope you will come and join us.”

Bill Oddie, TV personality, comedian, actor, writer, and conservationist, has also shown his support and love for RSPB Minsmere, tweeting: “Minsmere is as iconic as the Houses of Parliament, or Trafalgar Square… If ever a reserve should be totally protected it is Minsmere.” (full tweet here).

Naturalist and TV presenter Chris Packham has also declared he Loves Minsmere and urged people to attend the Love Minsmere Festival in this video. Chris Packham has designed an exclusive Love Minsmere t-shirt for the campaign which will be available to purchase on the day and is modelled in the video.
