Autumn is a great time of year to explore the amazing wildlife Manchester’s Mersey Valley has to offer, and the RSPB is running a number of events during half term to encourage everyone to get outdoors and see what they can discover.
As part of Transport for Greater Manchester’s ‘Autumn Walking Week’, wildlife discovery walks are being held at both Fletcher Moss and Chorlton Water Park. On Tuesday 24 October, participants in the ‘Woodland Bird Walk’ at Fletcher Moss will be guided through the wonderful woodland and encouraged to find out more about the range of species that make their home there. A walk from Chorlton Water Park on Wednesday 25 October will take in the River Mersey, as well as the lakes and wetlands around the Mersey Valley that provide a home for a range of wetland birds and other wildlife.
Both of these fairly easy walks are buggy accessible and start at 11am. They will be around 3 miles in distance and refreshments will be provided afterwards. Participants are advised to wear suitable clothing and bring binoculars if they have them, although a small number will be available to borrow on the day.
Families are also invited to join in an ‘Autumn Wild Challenge’ event at Chorlton Water Park on Wednesday 25 October. The RSPB will be running a variety of free nature discovery activities, such as bird feeder making, and encouraging families to earn rewards by continuing their Wild Challenge in their own back garden and the great outdoors.. Drop in to the event any time from 10am until 3pm.
