Today the Scottish Raptor Study Group has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise support for a Judicial Review into Scottish Natural Heritage’s recent decision to grant a research licence to cull ravens in Strathbraan.

In response to this an RSPB Scotland spokesperson said: “We recognise that this is a hugely controversial issue and the decision to permit a cull generated a significant level of concern from the public and interested stakeholders.  Given these concerns we think it would be helpful to have the process which underpinned that decision tested in the courts.

“At this time we are not in a position to actively assist in taking this Judicial Review forward. We have ourselves just completed a very lengthy JR process into the offshore wind sector, which cost a lot of money and a great deal of staff time.

“Whilst we do not know the precise grounds on which the Judicial Review challenge is being prepared, we will watch the proceedings with interest.

“In the meantime, we are still waiting to hear the conclusions of SNH’s Scientific Advisory Committee, who have been asked to consider the licence application. We look forward to the publication of their findings.”
