RSPB’s Summer of Seaside Fun at Fairhaven Lake

Wednesday 12 July 2017

Have fun and get up close to nature at Fairhaven Lake, with the RSPB's summer of seaside fun - a mixture of wildlife themed activities.

This school holiday families are invited to the RSPB Ribble Discovery Centre, by Fairhaven Lake to make Wednesday's wild! A whole host of activities are on offer with the theme changing each week. Join in with a minibeast hunt on 26 July to discover more about our smallest residents. On 9 and 30 August, try the unique experience of mud dipping on the Ribble estuary, discovering all manner of creatures that live in the mud. This event costs £5 per child (RSPB members £3).

Other Wild Wednesday events include exploring the sand dunes on 16 August and a guided wildlife photography walk on 23 August, teaching participants how to capture the Ribble's amazing landscapes.

Claire Critchley, Visitor and Learning Officer at RSPB Ribble Discovery Centre said: "School holidays are all about having fun with the family so help yours to make lifelong memories with our exciting, hands-on activities. Whether you are into birds or bats, shells or taking family snaps we have an activity for you."

All the Wild Wednesday events take place between 2-4 pm and participants will need to dress for the outdoors.

In addition to Wild Wednesday activities, make the most of staying up late in the school holidays with a guided bat walk on Saturday 12 August, 8 pm. Lots of bats make their home down by the water, search them out using special bat detectors. This event costs £7 per person (RSPB members £5).

Seaside snap is also back by popular demand. This self-led trail is available 10am-4pm everyday except Mondays and involves scavenging the shoreline for the creatures pictured on the collection box.

Details on these events and more can be found at rspb.org.uk/ribblediscoverycentre For further information or to book call the Ribble Discovery Centre on 01253 796292.
