RSPB Fundraising Direct was set up in 2009 and is the RSPB's own face-to-face fundraising agency.

What is RSPB Fundraising Direct?

RSPB Fundraising Direct was set up in 2009 and is the RSPB's own face-to-face fundraising agency (a division of RSPB Sales Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the RSPB).

The RSPB is no stranger to face-to-face activity. Back in Victorian times it was one of the first street campaigning organisations. The RSPB evolved this form of community campaigning into recruiting new members to the charity through face-to-face engagement on RSPB nature reserves, at country fairs, farmers' markets and most recently at private sites like shopping centres and supermarkets. This is where RSPB Fundraising Direct comes in.

RSPB Fundraising Direct has a fantastic Venues Team, who are responsible for booking sites for our face-to-face fundraisers to engage with and inspire members of the public to support us by becoming long term RSPB members.

Over the years, we have continued to expand our ever-growing team of Fundraisers and currently employ almost 70 fundraisers across the country, divided into regional teams, with our head office in Hove, East Sussex.

Our fundraisers are a passionate, pioneering and professional group, from varied and diverse backgrounds and are attracted by the great benefits, progressive training and excellent working culture that we offer.

Many have come from other fundraising agencies or sales roles and are attracted by the benefits of working in a fantastic team culture and career progression opportunities. Others are passionate about conservation and have come to us with the drive to become successful fundraisers, raising more money for the vital work the RSPB does. One thing all our staff have in common is their belief and commitment in helping to Save Nature.

What it's like

By working for RFD you will develop a deep understanding and connection with the work of the RSPB.

The RSPB often has TV adverts and local and national campaigns which you will use as a talking point to engage people. You will have regular training and resources available to you via your line manager, our intranet, team days and conferences.

Does this sound like you?

After your interview and successful appointment you'll begin a week's induction training, 3 days of which will be based at our head office. You'll learn about the RSPB's history, current campaigns, what the funds you raise will be used for, as well as learning and practicing fundraising skills and our professional standards. The rest of the week your training will continue with you working out in the field in your local region alongside a mentor, to ensure you get off to a great start.

From then on you'll receive as much ongoing support as you need from our team at head office, experienced mentors, senior fundraisers and, of course, daily contact with your area manager.

Our dedicated venues team will provide the places for you to work - all of our fundraising takes place at private sites such as superstores, shopping centres, convenience stores, and seasonal outdoor events…essentially anywhere we can get you talking to people. We will kit you out with everything you need to set up an engaging display, including some RSPB branded clothing.

From there it's up to you! You will at times be paired up with others from your team, and you will also be working independently. You'll be motivated, enthusiastic and resilient, making the best of every site you visit. You will need boundless energy and unfailing positivity. You'll know that every 'no' brings you closer to a 'yes' and every 'yes' is a new voice for nature and a reflection on what a great job you are doing.

You'll get a guaranteed salary each week so you can ensure the regular bills are paid, and on meeting KPI’s, you can expect market-leading earnings every month. You'll also be paid for all of your training and reimbursed for your travel from home to site every day via our expenses system.

All of our fundraisers receive 28 days paid holiday and, after a qualifying period, occupational sick pay and a pension (which the RSPB will contribute to). In addition, you will know that you are part of something that inspires and motivates people to change the world. You will be stepping up for nature.
